About
A bit more about me…
I studied Maths & Stats at Oxford from 2019-2023, gaining an MMath. Originally I was a Maths student and intrigued by the intrinsic truth of pure maths, this fell apart in first year reading the works of Gödel…
This was also when COVID hit, so I had a lot of time at home to think about what I could do that brings purpose to me. I had previously done an EPQ (a dissertation worth half an A-Level), titled “Is the Ascent of Artificial Intelligence the Downfall of Humanity?”, thus I had some ideas on the impact AI/ML could have. Aside from giving me the insight to buy Nvidia shares, I realised I should refocus from Maths to Maths & Stats (where I could take a host of ML courses) and have never looked back.
Following this I did some ML research in the summers at Oxford and Columbia University but on the whole found this rather slow. I wanted something with quicker feedback and more intensity, academia is typically not set up for that.
A good friend suggested I try out quant, this was great, high intensity and very fast feedback. I enjoyed that for 18 months but my role was not the deep challenge I wanted. I quit Optiver in March 2025 (full disclosure I am on a non-compete for a different trading firm, so a decently hedged action) and am really loving exploring the ML field again. Mech int is awesome, I am currently researching this under Neel on MATS, I would highly recommend this to anyone interested.
